My Goal

To make your envisioned tattoos feel achievable and accessible.

To provide a comfortable and peaceful tattoo experience, for your first tattoo or your fiftieth.

When I'm working with a client, I believe they deserve 100% of my attention and focus, as well as any accommodations needed in order to feel at peace during the appointment.

My Story

Hey, I'm so glad you're here!

My name is Esther, or Ess / Essie for short. I’m 29, a Scorpio, and I live in a tiny loft apartment by the ocean in Vancouver with my two cats and my french bulldog, Fergie.

How did I get started as a tattoo artist? I'd already been curious about tattooing for some time when I met Crystal, the owner of Dark Ocean Tattoo. I'd taken some art classes in Pen and Ink at Emily Carr, and after becoming more familiar with digital drawing, I dove into tattooing in January of 2023 when Crystal invited me to learn in her studio. I primarily black and grey tattoos, but I've been enjoying learning how to paint with watercolours lately, and I'm hoping to expand upon this and grow my knowledge about colour tattooing in the future!

Some little snippets about my life:

I grew up with a needle/blood phobia (fainted on multiple occasions varying from getting piercings to conversations with the vet) but for some reason tattooing is exempt from this, and has been very healing for me! Because of this history, I feel passionately about making tattoos feel safer for those with fears around blood and needles. Give me a heads up if this is something you struggle with, and we can talk about strategies to make you feel more comfortable at your appointment. I will never pressure someone into getting a tattoo if they're feeling nervous.

I’ve always been an artist: I've made and released music (search Esther Gadd on your streaming service!). I also do sound design for documentaries, and dip into any form of art that tickles my ADHD.

If you’ve met me, you know I’m a little scattered and a lot awkward, but I pride myself in being a loyal friend and a kind stranger.

If you’re looking to get to know a slightly anxious, extremely grateful tattoo artist who likes to chat about crochet, music, adhd, mindfulness, gym life, drag race, pets (I’ll obsess over yours with you, please bring pics), and many other topics, then come book a tattoo with me and let’s spend some time together!

I can't wait to meet you!
